Northeast Amateur Announces Field For 63rd Tournament In Rumford
Northeast Amateur Press Release
RUMFORD, R.I. – Welcome to the 63rd Northeast Amateur Invitational golf tournament scheduled for June 18-21 at
Wannamoisett Country Club. The Northeast Amateur once again welcomes an elite field of golfers from around the United
States, and the world, with this year’s field including many top ranked collegiate, junior and Mid-am players. The field is
highlighted by the return of the 2024 Champion, Anthony Delisanti of Valparaiso University and the runner-up, Bryan Lee of
the University of Virginia.
This off-season, Wannamoisett announced the appointment of Mick Hogan to Co-Chair the tournament along with long-time
chair Ben Tuthill. Hogan has been involved with the Northeast Amateur since his childhood and has been helping organize
the event since 2019. Hogan is only the 6th Chair in the 62-year history of the event.
The Northeast is the second of seven tournaments in the Elite Amateur Series which awards points to players in the field
based on their finishes. Points leaders will earn exemptions into PGA Tour and USGA events. Also, the PGA Tour recently
tabbed the Northeast as one of only six U.S.-based tournaments whose champion will receive 1 point towards the PGA Tour
University Accelerated Program as well as receiving an exemption to the US Amateur.
Tournament Co-chair’s Tuthill and Hogan have assembled one of the strongest fields amateur golf will see all summer.
Besides the return of Delisanti and Lee, the Northeast will welcome back top-10 finishers Cameron Tankersley (T-3, Ole
Miss) and Paul Chang (T-9, Virginia).
Virginia is coming off a runner-up finish in the NCAA Championships behind strong efforts from Lee, Chang and Connecticut’s Ben James, who is currently ranked No. 3 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings and was a Div. 1 1st Team AllAmerican selection. Seven players are part of the Team USA squad at the Arnold Palmer Cup including Preston Stout of NCAA Champion Oklahoma State, Josiah Gilbert (Auburn), Jacob Modleski (Notre Dame), Jase Summy (Oklahoma), Jack Turner (Florida), Wells Williams (Vanderbilt) and Max Herendeen (Illinois). The Palmer Cup will be held June 5-7 at Congaree (S.C.) Golf Club.
The Northeast owns a long history of welcoming the top junior players before they reach college and this year’s No. 1 ranked
junior Miles Russell (Jacksonville Beach, Fla.) is in the field as are two-time Terra Cotta champ Luke Colton (Frisco, Tex.)
and lefty Tyler Watts (Huntsville, Ala.). Leading the Mid-Amateur stars are three-time USGA Mid-Am champ Stewart
Hagestad and Garrett Rank, the NHL referee, who won the Joe Sprague award last year as the lower-scoring Mid-Am.
This year’s Walker Cup will be held at historic Cypress Point in September. Team Captain Nathan Smith will be the
Northeast’s special guest this year as he evaluates selections for the team. Leading the local invites are 5-time RIGA champ
Bobby Leopold, New England Am champ CJ Winchenbaugh, Mass. Player of the Year Matt Parziale and Connecticut Am &
Open champs Austin Perkins and Jackson Roman.
