Barrington couple involved in Newport wedding brawl face new charges

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — Newport police said Friday that a Barrington couple arrested after a fight against officers outside of The Landing restaurant last month are facing new charges.
David and Rachael Onik were among six people arrested after a physical altercation between officers and wedding guests on Sept. 10.
Rachael, who was already facing five misdemeanor charges, now faces two larceny charges after police said she tried to remove two officers’ holstered guns during the chaotic incident.

David also faces four new charges, including simple assault, related to the alleged assault of two restaurant employees. He was initially charged with one misdemeanor.
According to a police report, the brawl started when David was escorted out of the restaurant after he allegedly pushed an employee and tried to hit another.
A crowd gathered outside as David was being placed into handcuffs.

The officers involved reported that they were forced to push people away after repeatedly asking them to stay back. The police report says an officer was punched in the face, while another punched someone to keep them away from their gun.
The situation escalated until police called for backup and one officer fell backwards and was injured. Six people were taken into custody and charged with disorderly conduct and other offenses.
David and Rachael appeared back in court on Tuesday in relation to the new charges.
David will appear in Newport District Court on Nov. 7.
Rachael is not due back in court until December.
