Block Island plans to crackdown on underage drinking at bars

NEW SHOREHAM, R.I. (WLNE) — The New Shoreham Town Council will meet Monday to discuss plans to crackdown on underage drinking at bars on Block Island.
New Shoreham police released a report last week, which said they conducted “compliance checks” at bars and restaurants on the island.
Police asked an 18-year-old to go into seven different bars to see if they would be served. Six of those bars did not ask for identification.
A 19-year-old, also part of the sting operation, was served alcohol at two bars.
The town council will discuss liquor law compliance and ways to reduce open container violations on the island.
