Central Falls students name police department’s newest K-9
"The student’s creativity went above and beyond with an explanation as to why Zoom is the perfect name."

CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (WLNE) – The Central Falls Police Department announced their newest K-9 member in November, and challenged student’s in the town to submit names for the newest member of the department.
The school with the best name would be given the opportunity to meet the K-9, and the dog will take his oath of office at the school.
The Department announced on Wednesday that the winning name for the K-9 is “Zoom”. The name was entered by students from Ms. Lough and Ms. Kilsey class at Ella Risk Elementary School.
“The student’s creativity went above and beyond with an explanation as to why Zoom is the perfect name” the department said in a release.
“The police have zoomed around the city in police cars advising residents of COVID-19 and to wear masks and practice social distancing. Second, since the pandemic so many of us have used Zoom for meetings or school. When this is over and people try to forget the global pandemic, we can all relate Zoom to a very special dog and man’s best friend that will bring a smile to our face and not think of a meeting or this pandemic.”
Police say that when Zoom is ready to take his oath of office with his handler Kerry Craig, it will be done at Ella Risk Elementary School.
Central Falls said they congratulate and thank the students of Central Falls, and Ms. Lough and Kilsey’s students.
