Former Rhode Island National Guard member convicted in ‘gruesome’ 2019 murder

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A former Rhode Island National Guard member has been convicted in a grisly 2019 murder.
According to Rhode Island court records, Troy Ingram, 27, was found guilty Friday of first-degree murder and mutilation of dead human bodies.
Ingram murdered Mohsin Muhammad, 41, on July 20, 2019 inside Muhammad’s apartment on Jewett Street in Providence.
Providence police were called to the apartment at 1:30 p.m. on July 21, finding the body of Muhammad.
Police described the scene as “gruesome” and said that Muhammad had been killed by blunt force trauma.
According to police, Muhammed’s body was found on the floor in a pool of blood, and he was fully decapitated and his right arm was partially severed.
A large knife and two shovels were also found at the scene.
Ingram was questioned in the case the following day and told investigators in a detailed confession that he entered Muhammed’s apartment thinking it was empty.
He was surprised and confronted by Muhammed, who told him to leave.
Ingram left, retrieved a shovel, and lured Muhammed to the front door and struck him repeatedly in the face and head, beating him to death with the shovel.
He then used a knife to decapitate and partially dismember Muhammed’s body and fled the scene.
Ingram will be sentenced on October 24.
