How Rhode Islanders can recycle their Christmas trees this year

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — As we tie a bow on Christmas 2023 and you think about taking your holiday decorations down, here’s a look at what will happen to your live Christmas tree, if you decide to recycle it.

In the City of Providence, trees can be picked up on regularly scheduled trash pickup days. Trees collected will be delivered to the Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation and will be recycled into compost.

The city wished to remind residents that they must place their tree at the curb and all the decorations must be removed.
