Judge Frank Caprio asks for prayers in video announcing pancreatic cancer diagnosis
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Judge Frank Caprio announced in an emotional video Wednesday that he is fighting pancreatic cancer.
In the video, Caprio said he recently celebrated turning 87 with his family.
“I received so many wonderful messages from people all over the world,” he said. “This birthday is a little different than any other I have ever had.”
He said he wasn’t feeling well recently and went to get a medical examination.
Caprio said he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
He is being treated by teams of doctors in Rhode Island and Boston.
He asked for prayers as he fights his cancer battle.
“One thing that people ask me is ‘what can I do for you?’ First of all, I can’t thank all of you enough for your friendship and your kind messages. But I would ask each of you, in your own way, to please pray for me,” Caprio said.
“I am in need of the power of prayer, which I believe, in addition to the medical treatment that I am receiving, is the most powerful weapon to help me survive this,” he said.
Caprio retired earlier this year after nearly 40 years of service.
