Judge Frank Caprio to be inducted into Providence MLK Jr. Hall of Fame
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Mayor Brett Smiley will be inducting Chief Judge Frank Caprio, alongside Derek Earl Hazard Jr. and Helen Baskerville-Dukes, into the city’s Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Hall of Fame.
Smiley said the inductees were nominated by members of the public and chosen for their contributions to social justice, civil rights, and equality.
Caprio, who retired in 2023, was appointed as Chief Justice Emeritus.
Hazard established Inner City Hair Design and the founder and former president of the Chad Brown Alumni Association/North End Outreach.
Baskerville-Dukes is the Executive Director of the Mount Hope Community Center and serves as the chair of Juneteenth R.I.
“Together these leaders have helped make Providence the inclusive and welcoming city it is known to be,” Smiley said. “I invite residents from across the city to join us in commemorating the impactful work of Dr. King and honoring the inductees for all that they have done for our city.”
The ceremony is scheduled for Feb. 12 at the City Council Chambers and will feature performances by Music One and a reading by former Trinity Repertory Resident Artist and current Director of Providence’s Arts, Culture, and Tourism Department Joe Wilson Jr.
