Local leaders react to Biden’s plans to visit Massachusetts

SOMERSET, Mass. (WLNE) — President Joe Biden will visit Brayton Point in Somerset on Wednesday, as he gets ready to announce new action on climate change.

In a release Tuesday, the White House said the President will talk about “tackling the climate crisis and seizing the opportunity of a clean energy future to create jobs and lower costs for families.”

Rhode Island Senator Sheldon Whitehouse is one legislator hoping the President acts alone on climate change.

“The Biden administration can do more on climate, and with legislative options now closed, the President must act,” Whitehouse tweeted Tuesday. “It’s time for executive Beast Mode.”

According to a new poll from CNN, nearly 70% of Americans said Biden isn’t paying enough attention to the nation’s most pressing problems, inflation and the economy.

The chair of the Rhode Island GOP Sue Cienki weighed in on the President’s visit, “Is President Biden coming to Rhode Island to see how his failed economic policies, along with those of the general assembly Democrats, have left Rhode Island at the bottom of places to live and do business?”

ABC 6 News has confirmed Congressman Jake Auchincloss as well as Sen. Elizabeth Warren will also be joining Biden at the event.
