PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 7/7 Providence College men’s ice hockey team fell late to No. 5/5 Maine on Saturday (Feb. 8), losing 1-0 in overtime at Schneider Arena. Philip Svedebäck denied 19-of-20 shots, posting a .950 save percentage in the loss.

NOTES
– Neither the Friars nor Black Bears could break onto the scoreboard in the opening frame, leaving the score tied at 0-0 through 20 minutes.
– Providence had an opportunity early in the first period following a five-minute major and game misconduct to Maine’s Nicholas Niemo, but the Friars came up empty handed on the power-play.
– Both Providence and Maine were left off the score sheet through the second period, keeping the 0-0 tie intact. The Friars edged out the Black Bears on the shot chart in the middle frame, outpacing Maine 8-5.
– With 7:08 to play in the third period, the Friars went back onto the power-play following a five-minute major and game misconduct to Maine’s Jack Dalton, but were once again unsuccessful, keeping the score at 0-0 through the end of regulation.
– With 2:45 to play in the overtime period, Maine’s Taylor Makar found the back of the net, beating Svedebäck high glove-side for a top corner goal, winning it for the Black Bears 1-0.
– With the loss, the Friars fall to 4-2-5 in overtime periods this season.
– Philip Svedebäck stood tall in the overtime loss, denying 19-of-20 shots on net, good for a .950 save percentage.
– Twelve Friars landed a shot on net in the overtime loss, paced by four-shot outings from Logan Will and Nick Poisson.
