9 Days of Dates: Providence scent bar Scentique
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Today is the first day of our Nine Days of Dates series, where ABC6 News Anchor Tiffany Murphy and ABC6 Stormtracker Meteorologist Kristina Shalhoup take all of you on nine dates around southern New England to get you ready for Valentine’s Day!
For date number one, we’re bringing you to one locally-owned, downtown Providence business that’ll have you wondering if you can smell love in the air.
Of all the human senses, scent is the sense most tied to memory.
So, this Valentine’s Day, why not make some new scents, and new memories with your favorite people?
That’s what you get when step into Scentique.
At this downtown Providence scent bar, you and your date, or whoever you decide to bring, get to play chemist, mixing and matching any of the bar’s 24 smells to make something uniquely your own.
Co-owner and Providence native, Kristin Smith, came up with the idea for Scentique after visiting a candle bar in another state.
“I liked the concept of it, it was kind of like a wine and paint,” said Smith.
“But it was just a little bit too classroomy for me, so I decided to put my own twist on it.”
Now, three years into the business, Smith says she wants patrons of Scentique to feel like they can come in, take their sweet time, and not be afraid to step out of their comfort zones.
“Life can be a little hard, so just to come in and relax with your friends, and just kind of tune into that creative side that you might not normally be into,” said Smith.
So, consider this your chance to stop and smell the roses, or the fragrances, during this great date experience.
