Pawtucket man charged with child abuse had a similar case in Woonsocket

WOONSOCKET, R.I (WLNE) – Carlos Melendez, a Pawtucket man charged with child abuse after his two-month-old daughter was hospitalized with broken bones, has a prior charge of child abuse from 2016.

Melendez was charged by Woonsocket police after his one-year-old had bite marks on their chest, foot, and shoulders.

The child also had bruises on the back of their head.

He was charged with 2nd-degree child abuse.

According to court records, Melendez was sentenced to 10 years, where he served 18 months, which was January of 2018.

Melendez was 19-years-old at the time.
