Pawtucket officer Daniel Dolan resigns ahead of LEOBOR conclusion

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — Embattled officer Daniel Dolan resigned from the Pawtucket Police Department, the city announced Tuesday.
The city said Dolan has irrevocably resigned from the department effective Thursday, Nov. 30, which is ahead of the conclusion of his Law Enforcement Officers’ Bill of Rights — or LEOBOR — proceedings.
The trial of the LEOBOR disciplinary case against Dolan began in August. It had hearing dates scheduled until early December.

“With the LEOBOR trial set to resume shortly, Dolan opted to voluntarily submit his irrevocable resignation of employment, thus avoiding further costly and inherently uncertain LEOBOR litigation, and purging Dolan from the otherwise proud ranks of the Pawtucket Police Department with finality,” the city said.
Dolan was previously acquitted in a 2021 shooting of a teenager outside a pizza shop in West Greenwich. Dolan was off-duty at the time of the alleged incident.
In September of this year, Dolan was arrested for suspected DUI and threatening officers at the Coventry Police Department.
He was charged with threat to a public official — a felony, DUI of liquor, and reckless driving.
Dolan is expected to be arraigned on those charges on Dec. 13.
The city noted that LEOBOR cases are not usually predictable, and Dolan’s resignation spares the city future uncertainty and spares taxpayers expenses.
