PC Beats Crosstown Rival Brown in Women’s Soccer

GAME FLOW & NOTES
– The Friars held a commanding 13-0 advantage in shots at the end of the first half.
– Camille Murphy (Seattle, Wash.) paced Providence with four shots, two on target in the first half.
– Hannah McNulty (Warwick, R.I.) and Hailee Duserick (Canton, Mass.) each rang the crossbar in the opening half.
– Sophomore Amber Birchwell (Mastic, N.Y.) notched her second goal of the season on assists from Duserick and Kayla Steeves (Needham, Mass.).
– The game was delayed by lightning for 30 minutes at the end of the first half.
– Brown came out stronger in the second half, they were only outshot 8-6 compared to the first half of 13-0.
– McNulty added an insurance goal in the 87th minute, Theresa Durkee (Salem, Conn.) setup the play by running onto a ball about 10 yards outside the 18-yard box. The goalie left her line to deflect the ball away from Durkee, but McNulty cleaned it up and lofted a shot over the defense and in.
– Hogan finished the night with three saves. On the opposing side, Christine Etzel tallied eight saves on 21 shots.
SCORING SUMMARY
PC – (29:48) Amber Birchwell, assisted by Hailee Duserick – Duserick played a ball into the box off a corner kick, Birchwell fired the loose ball from eight yards out into the back of the net.
PC – (86:49) Hannah McNulty lofted a shot over the back line from 10 yards out.
