PC Beats URI to Open Women’s Soccer Season

The Providence College women’s soccer team shut out the University of Rhode Island Rams, 1-0, in its season opener on Thursday, August 15 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. The Friars are now 1-0 in regular season play.

GAME FLOW AND NOTES

– Kacey Lawrence (Monroe, Conn.) scored her first goal of the season to give the Friars a 1-0 lead. Her goal was assisted by Gillian Kenny (Hanover, Mass.) and Kayla Briggs (Toronto, Ontario). This marks Lawrence’s first goal as a Friar.

– The Friars remain unbeaten (6-0-1) in their last seven season openers dating back to 2018.

– Ellie Thallman made her first appearance in net for the Friars, playing the final 45 minutes with Emma Bodmer earning the start.

– Lawrence, Ella McBride (Peterborough, Ont.) and Victoria Bunz (Middleton, Wis.) each landed a shot on target for the Friars.
