PC Wraps Up Spain Trip With Win In Barcelona

BARCELONA, Spain– The Providence College men’s basketball team played its third and final game in its tour in Spain and defeated the Catalonia All-Stars, 98-50, in Barcelona, Spain on Wednesday, August 23. The Friars finished the tour with a 3-0 mark. Junior Bryce Hopkins (Oak Park, Ill.) led the Friars with a team-high 15 points. Graduate student Josh Oduro (Gainesville, Va.) had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds..
“Our guys showed a good level of maturity to open the game – our guys respected their opponent, took them seriously and we executed at a high level in the first half,” Friar Head Coach Kim English said. “I think that we gained a lot from this trip. Our guys have got to spend a lot of time together. I love how hard we played and that they played together. Really proud of the group.”
1st Quarter:
• The Friars led 26-10 after 10 minutes of action.
• Bryce Hopkins led the Friars with seven points.
2nd Quarter:
•At halftime, the Friars held a 54-26 lead
•In the second quarter, the Friars outscored Catalonia, 28-16.

3nd Quarter:
•The Friars, outscored the All-Stars, 17-9 and led, 71-35, after three quarters.
4th Quarter:
•The Friars outscored Catalonia, 27-15, in the final 10 minutes of play.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• The Friars are making their first foreign tour since they went to Italy in 2018 and their first tour of Spain since 1977.
• Three Friars did not play due to injuries Carter (wrist), Fernandez (leg), and Barron (shoulder).
• Josh Oduro was 5-6 from the field in 19 minutes of action.
• Josh Oduro recorded a double-double in two of the three games in Spain.
• With his 15 points versus Catalonia, Bryce Hopkins led the Friars in scoring in two of the three games in Spain.
• Rafael Castro recorded a game-high 15 rebounds in 21 minutes of play.
• Friars shot 52 % (35-67) overall from the field.
• The Friars outrebounded the Catalonia All-Stars, 54-20.
