WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE)-

310 students and staff members at Pilgrim High School were tested for COVID-19 on Wednesday following a recent outbreak- linked to the recent Homecoming dance.

The tests were administered at a clinic at Pilgrim High School from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., in partnership with the department of health.

An administrator from Warwick Public Schools tells ABC6 the tests were PCR, so the results will take a few days. The district says it will make a decision on Friday about classes for next week.

Video, captured by Warwick Beacon, shows numerous students and staff members inside the school building not wearing masks.

Principal Gerald Habershaw provided two statements to ABC6 regarding the video:

  • “That video was at the very beginning of the dance. We were trying usher students out to the tent.”
  • “Prior the event, students had to get tested and we did temperature checks at the door. The majority of the event was outside in a tent. The only time students were inside was to check in, eat food, and take formal pictures.

It still doesn’t explain why dozens of students are mask-less, against district policyl

Students telling ABC6 News on Wednesday there are rumors that students changed their COVID-19 testing results from positive to negative in order to get into the dance. A spokesperson for the district tells me that is not something they are aware of.
