PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Providence man was found guilty of his role in a fatal daytime shooting in 2020, prosecutors said Thursday.

A jury found 23-year-old Justin Chandler guilty of first degree murder, conspiracy, and several gun charges after a seven-day trial.

Chandler is awaiting sentencing in the death of 22-year-old Devin Delacruz in Olneyville on the morning of Dec. 4, 2020.

Delacruz and his friend, Nazaski Carrasco Smith, were waiting at a school bus stop at the corner of Putnam and Kossuth streets.

Police said a hooded person went up to their car just before 11:30 a.m. and opened fire, hitting both of them twice.

That’s when police said Chandler drove up to the scene and picked up the shooter.

Delacruz was pronounced dead at Rhode Island Hospital. Smith recovered from his injuries after several injuries.

Detectives said the two were targeted due to an ongoing gang-related feud.

The investigation into the shooter in the case is ongoing.
