Providence Men’s and Women’s Hockey Teams Both Picked Fourth in Hockey East

The Providence College men’s hockey team was picked to finish fourth in the 2022-23 Hockey East Preseason Coaches’ Poll released on Tuesday (Sept. 13) at the league’s annual media day held at TD Garden in Boston, Mass.

The Friars, coming off a 22-win campaign in 2021-22, welcome back their top-seven scorers from a year ago. The team returns a total of 96 goals, including a team-high 18 tallies from junior Brett Berard (East Greenwich, R.I.), who finished third in the Hockey East scoring race with 38 points last season. Providence returns a strong senior class which combined for 43 goals and 67 assists for 110 points in 2021-22, led by Parker Ford (Wakefield, R.I.), Patrick Moynihan (Millis, Mass.), Max Crozier (Calgary, Alta.) and Jamie Engelbert (Cobourg, Ont.). Rising junior Nick Poisson (Vancouver, B.C.) finished fourth in assists and fifth overall in scoring in Hockey East last season.

In goal, the Friars will boast an entirely new goaltender room as Omaha transfer Austin Roden (Victoria, B.C.), 2021 Boston Bruins draft pick Philip Svedebäck (Vaxjo, Sweden) and sophomore John Driscoll (Milton, Mass.) make up the new trio in between the pipes.

Providence opens the 2022-23 campaign with a pair of exhibitions against Western Ontario (Oct. 1) and Quinnipiac (Oct. 2) before opening the regular season at home against Sacred Heart on Friday, Oct. 7.
