Providence Women Fall in Hockey East Quarterfinal

The No. 4 seed Providence College women’s hockey team was defeated by the No. 5 seed Northeastern Huskies, 3-2, in Hockey East Quarterfinal action on Saturday, March 1 at Schneider Arena in Providence, R.I. The Friars finished the season with a 20-12-3 mark on the season, while Northeastern improved to 21-13-1 overall. Freshman Jessie Pellerin (Bowmanville, Ontario) and graduate student Millie Sirum (Oslo, Norway) both scored for the Friars.

GAME FLOW & NOTES

– NU’s Skylar Irving netted the first goal of the game on a power play at 6:54 of the second period. Jules Constantinople and Eloise Caron added assists.

-One minute later (7:59), Allie Lalonde netted her fourth goal of the season for the Huskies. Jaden Bogden and Constantinople each assisted on the tally.

-The Friars cut the NU’s lead in half at 2:04 of the third period when freshman Jessie Pellerin (Bowmanville, Ontario) wristed in a shot from feet in front of the net. After a scrum in front of the NU net the puck ended up behind the cage. Sophomore Kiara Kraft (Churchville, N.Y.) collected the puck and passed to Pellerin in front and she sent a high shot into the back of the net.

-Ella Blackmore added an insurance tally for the Huskies at 7:18 of the third. Assists were credited to Allie Lalonde and Rylie Jones.

-Providence pulled with one goal at the 11:30 mark of the third period on a goal by graduate student Millie Sirum (Oslo, Norway). Sirum poked in a rebound in the crease. Senior Lily Hendrikson (Edina, Minn.) was credited with the assist.

NOTES
-The Friars fell to 22-25 all-time in Hockey East Tournament play.
-The Friars fell to 1-6 all-time in Hockey East Tournament play vs. Northeastern.
-The Friars fell to 3-1 on the season versus Northeastern.
-The Friars are now 72-71-13 all-time versus Northeastern.
