Red Sox head home for Fenway opener, 2004 team honors

BOSTON, Mass. (WLNE) — After a solid 7-3 start to their 2024 season, the Boston Red Sox are coming home.

And it won’t be just any opening day for the hometown team.

Opening Day festivities will kick off at Fenway Park on Tuesday, with a ceremony honoring the 20th anniversary of the 2004 World Series Champion Red Sox.

The team will also honor former Red Sox knuckle baller Tim Wakefield, who passed away from cancer in October of 2023.

Former team president Larry Lucchino will also be remembered after his passing earlier in April.

The Red Sox will be opening a series with the Baltimore Orioles on this first homestand of 2024.
