RI Man Accused of Killing Girlfriend’s Dog to Appear in Court

Providence, RI (WLNE) – A man accused of kicking his girlfriend’s dog to death is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

Devon Hernandez of Providence faces a felony charge of malicious injury to or killing of animals.

In early November, Police said Hernandez picked up his girlfriend’s 1-year-old dog, Davinci, forcefully threw him down, and repeatedly kicked him. The police report said that all happened after the dog urinated on the bed.

Police said that Hernandez could be seen on surveillance video carrying the dog, wrapped in a red sweater, outside of the apartment on a surveillance camera. Police say Davinci looked lifeless in the footage. Police found the dog dead inside of a PriceRite bag at the intersection Whitmarsh and Updike, according to the report.

Hernandez appeared in court on November 8. He was ordered to be held at ACI without bail.

Monday’s hearing is listed as a “determination of attorney” hearing.
