CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Rhode Island state Sen. Josh Miller is facing an additional charge in connection to a vandalism incident last month in Cranston.

Chris Millea, Cranston’s city solicitor, said Wednesday that he found that there was “probable cause to charge an additional count of obstruction of a police officer in the execution of his duties.” This is a misdemeanor charge.

On June 22, the Democrat was accused of keying an SUV at the Garden City Shopping Center.

Col. Michael Winquist said then that Miller’s pickup truck was next to the SUV that was keyed.

Winquist said Miller was stopped by officers when he was leaving the shopping plaza. He denied damaging the SUV and claimed that the driver of the SUV verbally threatened him.

Miller claimed he was being stalked and threatened by “gun nuts” at the State House and believed the driver of the SUV recognized him as a state senator and threatened him for that reason.

The senator’s interaction with the officers was captured by police body-worm cameras.

Miller is scheduled to be arraigned later this month.
