Shelter at Warwick motel to move to Memorial Hospital in Pawtucket
PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — OpenDoors said that it is planning to move its temporary shelter from the Motel 6 in Warwick to Memorial Hospital in Pawtucket.
The nonprofit said the move is in partnership with the governor’s office, the Department of Housing, and Mayor Don Grebien.
The majority of the 120 people currently sheltering in the motel will be moved to the hospital, which was previously used as a shelter in 2021 and 2022.
“We run safe shelters and have a track record of working hard to be good neighbors, and we look forward to meeting the community around the hospital,” OpenDoors Deputy Director Dina Bruce said. “The new location is much better suited to this use–it has more room for providing services, common space, and isn’t located next to an active commercial motel. We are also very hopeful this will be a more financially sustainable operation.”
