PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A stabbing in Providence Monday night prompted a large police presence.

The stabbing happened just after 10:30 p.m. on Williams Street.

Police said that while on their way to the scene, they were told that Kezekiah Mendoza had stabbed the caller’s brother, 26-year-old Anthony Bricknell.

Police said the caller told them that Mendoza was responsible for the stabbing and that he had a gun.

When officers arrived at the scene, police said a man started yelling from the third-floor window that Mendoza had a gun and he was still inside the apartment, possibly in the staircase between the first and second floors.

Morales, police said, told officers that Mendoza drives a blue 2000 Volkswagen with New Hampshire license plates. Officers saw the car in the driveway of the apartment, leading them to believe that the suspect was still inside.

Police then set up perimeter and secured the area. Police said they found one live round on the sidewalk in front of the apartment, which was later seized by BCI.

Bricknell was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said they used a loud speaker to try to get in contact with Mendoza. Meanwhile, the SWAT and Rifle team made their way into the apartment and “conducted a protective sweep” for the suspect but didn’t find him.

While conducting the search, police said they saw blood in the staircase and in the third-floor apartment.

It’s unclear at this time if any arrests were made.
