Three Friars Selected on Day Two of 2020 NHL Draft

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men’s hockey program saw two current Friars and one future commitment selected on day two of the 2020 NHL Draft on Wednesday (Oct. 7). The draftees were: freshmen Brett Berard (East Greenwich, R.I.) and Chase Yoder (Fairview, Texas), along with future Friar Riley Duran (Woburn, Mass.).

Berard, who will begin his freshman season with the Friars in 2020-21, was drafted in the fifth round (134th overall) by the New York Rangers. He spent two seasons in the U.S. National Team Development Program while recording 16 goals and 18 assists with the U18s in 2019-20. He was ranked No. 45 on the NHL Central Scouting North American Skater rankings leading into the draft.

Yoder, a teammate of Berard at the U.S. National Team Development Program, was drafted in the sixth round (170th overall) by the Pittsburgh Penguins. He posted 10 goals and 10 assists in 2019-20 and was ranked No. 92 on the NHL Central Scouting North American Skater rankings leading into the draft.

Duran, who will play the 2020-21 season with the Youngstown Phantoms (USHL), was selected in the sixth round (182nd overall) by the Boston Bruins. He recorded 22 goals and 22 assists in 27 games played at Lawrence Academy (Mass.) last season. Duran was ranked No. 95 on the NHL Central Scouting North American Skater rankings leading into the draft and will join Providence College in 2021-22.
