Three R.I. men charged in 2019 murder of Massachusetts teen

2019 Shooting

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)– Three Rhode Island men have been indicted on charges for the 2019 slaying of a Massachusetts teenager, Attorney General Peter Neronha said in a statement today.

Prosecutors handed down a 20-count indictment against Marklyn Brown, 26, of Cranston; Johnny Veng, 30, and Jimmy Castillo, 28, both of Providence, charging each with murder and multiple firearms violations.

The charges come after the three had first been arrested in February.

According to court documents, 19-year-old Berta Pereira-Roldan had traveled to Providence from Revere, Massachusetts to celebrate her birthday.

Pereira-Roldam had been celebrating at Club Noah on Detroit Avenue in the city.

She was shot and killed while exiting the club, according to police. Another woman, Crystal Peloquin, was also seriously injured in the shooting.

The three men are currently being held without bail at the Adult Correctional Institution in Cranston.

They are expected to be arraigned on July 17 in Superior Court.
