URI Football Ranked #14 Nationally
With a six-game winning streak and an undefeated record in FCS play, the Rhode Island football team moved up to No. 14 in Monday morning’s Stats Perform and AFCA Top 25 polls.
The Rams, who were slotted 15th/16th a week ago, beat Maine 24-14 on Saturday at Meade Stadium to improve their record to 7-1. URI’s Homecoming victory saw the team rush for three touchdowns while racking up a season-high seven sacks.
With the win, Rhode Island is off to its best start in conference play (4-0 CAA Football) since it began the 2001 season 5-0 in the Atlantic 10.
Rhody was one of five league teams ranked in both polls. Stats Perform tabbed Villanova 13th, Richmond 16th, Stony Brook 20th and William & Mary 24th, while the AFCA had the Spiders at No. 12, the Wildcats at No. 13, the Seawolves at No. 20 and the Tribe at No. 24.
URI’s two-game home swing will continue opposite Monmouth on Saturday, Nov. 2. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Meade Stadium and though it is sold out, fans can stream the action on FloSports.
