URI’s Malik Grant Named to East-West Shine Bowl 1,000 List
Rhode Island Football’s transfer running back Malik Grant has been named to the East-West Shrine Bowl 1000 List, the organization announced on Tuesday morning.
Grant joined the Rams in the offseason following a decorated career with Sacred Heart (2019-23), where he earned Third Team All-American honors as a redshirt sophomore.
The former NEC Offensive Player of the Year, who was also a finalist for the prestigious Walter Payton Award, recorded 3,310 career rushing yards with the Pioneers while racking up 27 touchdowns on the ground. A Bronx native, Grant also accumulated 373 receiving yards and caught four touchdown passes.
During his time in Fairfield, he appeared in 41 games on both offense and special teams, where he recorded four tackles. He surpassed 1,000 rushing yards in both the 2021 (1,347) and 2022 campaigns (1,080).
Grant was one of 14 CAA Football student-athletes on the list. Delaware, Elon, Monmouth, New Hampshire, North Carolina A&T, Richmond, Towson, Villanova and William & Mary were also featured.
This marks the second-consecutive year that URI has been highlighted on the East-West Shrine Bowl 1000 List, as former offensive linemen Lorenzo Thompson and Nick Correia were tabbed in 2023. Thompson has since signed a rookie free agent deal with the Cleveland Browns, while Correia was invited to a pair of Mini Camps (Seattle Seahawks, Miami Dolphins).
The 100th annual East-West Shrine Bowl will take place Thursday, Jan. 30, 2025 in Arlington, Texas at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys. The game will be nationally televised on the NFL Network.
Hundreds of the top collegiate stars are either taken in the NFL Draft or sign as free agents each year, and the East-West Shrine Bowl provides these NFL hopefuls with an opportunity to showcase their skills while supporting the life-changing mission of Shriners Children’s.
