KINGSTON, R.I. – For the second straight week, Rhode Island freshman Tyonne Farrell has been named the Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.

Farrell recorded his first career double-double in Rhody’s 105-73 win over Frankling Pierce, going for 10 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. He also had two steals and was a plus-22 in 22 minutes of playing time. Five of his rebounds were on the offensive end and were a big reason Rhode Island had 24 second-chance points.

Farrell is the first Rhode Island player to win Rookie of the Week honors in consecutive weeks since E.C. Matthews did so in four straight weeks during the month of February of the 2013-14 season. His run of four in a row was snapped by teammate Hassan Martin. Matthews won the honor seven times, the second most in program history. Lamar Odom was a 10-time Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week in 1998-99.

Farrell has started all three games for Rhode Island this season, averaging 8.7 points and a team-high 6.3 rebounds per game.

Rhode Island is back in action Wednesday when it hosts Lafayette on Wednesday, Nov. 20. Game time is 7:02 p.m. on ESPN+.
