Warwick DUI crash driver who injured state trooper convicted
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Warwick man who crashed while under the influence of alcohol and Xanax and injured a Rhode Island State Trooper has been convicted of one count of driving to endanger resulting in physical injury and one count of driving under the influence.
Richard Stanley, 56, was found guilty of the charges on February 8 after a four-day jury trial in Superior Court.
The incident occurred on December 28, 2021 when a trooper had pulled over another vehicle on I-95 in Warwick.
The defendant veered from the center lane of I-95 South and collided with the rear end of the trooper’s cruiser.
It was determined that the defendant was traveling at 52 MPH at the time of the crash and had not braked during the five seconds before impact.
Stanley told investigators that he had alcohol and Xanax and was found to have a blood alcohol level of .011%.
Stanley is scheduled to be sentenced at Kent County Superior Court on April 26.
