Youth skills camp founders preview summer programs coming to Warwick

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — A youth skills camp co-founded by an Olympic medalist is coming to Warwick this summer.
Rhode Island native Elizabeth Beisel, fellow Emerge Youth Skills Camp founders, and Mayor Frank Picozzi held a press conference on the programs Wednesday.
They met at Rocky Point State Park, one of the Warwick landmarks that will be a part of the camping experience.
Beisel, a two-time Olympic medalist, created sessions focusing on self-confidence, learning how to work as a team, yoga and meditation, physical activity, and “re-wilding” in nature.
The camp will have two Monday through Friday sessions from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from August 7 to 11 and August 14 to 18.
The five-day camp is for kids 10 to 14 years old. The camp co-founders expect approximately 300 kids to attend over the two sessions.
According to the camp’s website, Mondays and Tuesdays will be dedicated to water safety. Wednesdays and Thursdays will be dedicated to educational learning, which will include CPR training, choking protocols, and basic first aid.
The camp will wrap up at Rocky Point Park on Fridays with an educational day at the park for kids to connect with nature.
