EAST GREENWICH, RI (WLNE) – Three firefighters in East Greenwich have tested positive for COVID-19, according to their union IAFF Local 3328.

There are 34 firefighters that make up the East Greenwich Fire Department, which means 10% (3 firefighters) of the department tested positive, the union says.

Testing for the entire department will take place Monday.

The union expects more positive cases will come due to a few firefighters experiencing symptoms who were in close contact inside the department’s living quarters with the firefighters who tested positive.

“Rest assured that our remaining members continue on the frontline filling the staffing shortages and we will continue to provide Fire, EMS, and other emergency services 24/7 to our community,” IAFF Local 3328 said on Twitter Monday.
