11th Hour Racing Team involved in crash during Ocean Race

THE HAGUE, Netherlands (WLNE) — The Newport-based team 11th Hour Racing has suffered “catastrophic damage” according to Ocean Race officials.

The ship collided with the French/German team’s ship GUYOT environnement-Team Europe during the opening minutes of the race’s final leg.

Both ships are now in port waiting for a damage assessment to see if they can continue on the final leg from The Hague, Netherlands to Genova, Italy.

The 11th Hour, which has won the previous three legs of the race, was the current race leader.

The race’s fourth leg, which brought it to Newport, shed light on the state’s sailing culture.
