1st set of Atlantic Shark Institute charity license plates to be released this weekend

The Atlantic Shark Institute shared this photo of its new charity plate.

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Nearly four months after the Atlantic Shark Institute released its shark charity plate, the Rhode Island Division of Motor Vehicles will be distributing the first set of plates this weekend.

The DMV said it will be distributing about 7,000 plates ordered by Atlantic Shark Institute supporters.

Jon Dodd, executive director of the Atlantic Shark Institute, said in April that every dollar from these license plates will go toward “vital research aimed at answering critical questions about shark health, ocean health, and our health.”

Those with last names that start with letters A-M will get their plates Saturday. Anyone with last names that begin with letters N-Z will receive their plates the next day.

The event takes place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the DMV in Cranston.
