City of Providence moves to evict embattled Skyline at Waterplace

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — On Monday, the city of Providence moved to evict Skyline at Waterplace from their retail location, as they are accused of violating terms of their lease.
According to Michael Lepizzera Jr., a lawyer representing Skyline in the ongoing matter, the company will be “unequivocally appealing” Monday’s decision.
By appealing the move to evict Skyline from the Waterplace property, Lepizzera Jr. said the company will be able to “start anew in Superior Court” rather than have the case move to District Court.
In a statement from Lepizzera Jr., he said in part, “In the event a trial is necessary, Skyline is confident that it will prevail leaving Skyline with 13-plus years left on the lease term to continue to host premier events at this iconic venue which it physically built and created for the benefit of the City.”
Back in April, the city of Providence filed a suit to evict Skyline, claiming the company failed to maintain the property by leaving trash, waste, furniture, and kitchen equipment outside.
Skyline is also accused of failing to provide documentation of all improvements, repairs, and maintenance made between Dec. 1, 2019, through the end of the lease.
ABC 6 News has reached out to representatives from the city of Providence for comment on the matter and are waiting to hear back.
