Governor speaks out against decision in Warwick to reopen with distance learning

Gov. Raimondo accuses district of failing to do its job for city students

Governor Raimondo had some strong words for Warwick’s School Committee during her Coronavirus briefing on Wednesday.  The school committee voted 4-1 Tuesday night to reopen with distance learning, not in-person or hybrid learning.

When asked about the decision, the governor said, “I could not be more disappointed in the vote that they took.  They just threw in the towel on those kids, and I think the children of Warwick deserve better.”  She added, “They didn’t even submit a plan for in-person learning.”

School districts in Rhode Island were tasked with submitting learning plans for in-person schooling, hybrid schooling, and distance learning to the Department of Education by July 17th.
