Wyatt Detention Center reports 110 cases of COVID-19

CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (WLNE) – The Wyatt Detention Center reported Tuesday that the facility now has 110 total positive cases of COVID-19.
Of the positive cases, 99 are detainees and 11 are staff members.
This comes one week after 52 detainees tested positive, along with eight employees at the facility.
The Wyatt Detention Center received results on Monday and say they are continuing to work with the Rhode Island Department of Health to take the correct measures to prevent more spread of the virus.
Chris Hunter, a spokesperson from the facility included the following measures below in a statement.
These measures include:
- Conducting another round of saturation testing of detainees and staff.
- Performing contact tracing with RIDOH’s assistance.
- Assigning positive detainees to dedicated COVID-19 cohort units.
- Assigning negative detainees to fully sanitized negative cohort units.
- Requiring any positive staff to continue to quarantine at home.
- Continuing to ensure that all detainees and staff have sufficient and appropriate Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and cleaning supplies.
- Consulting with RIDOH’s Congregate Settings Support Team on additional measures and best practices to mitigate community spread.
The facility say they are anticipating additional cases due to the congregate setting and is prepared to respond to any additional of those cases that may occur.
