Cities and Towns Honor Our Military
Veterans Day

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – There are several local events scheduled for this Veteran’s Day.

Governor Raimondo along with the state’s congressional delegation and others will commemorate the day virtually. A ceremony is set for 9 a.m.  You can watch on Governor Raimondo’s Facebook page or Capitol TV.

Fall River is holding a motorcade with the theme, “We are one”.  It begins at 1 p.m.  All groups and organizations, private or public, non-profit or private business are invited to participate in
this year’s event. You can enjoy it from the comfort of your home, sidewalk, porch or yard.

New Bedford will honor its veterans with a virtual Veterans Day event that will be livestreamed on the City’s Facebook pages and aired on New Bedford Cable Access.  That’s at 11 a.m.

In Coventry, the American Legion SPRM Post 81 and VFW Post 9404 will hold their ceremonies at the following locations:
1st: WW1 Monument Anthony Green
2nd: Korea/Vietnam Monument Arnold Rd(causeway)
3rd: WW2 Monument In front of 1075 Main St
4th: Navy and Coast Guard recognition South Main St at the Bridge
There will be rifle salutes at each location.

Westport will hold a rolling parade of veterans followed by a brief ceremony at Beech Grove Cemetery.  This replaces the usual parade and larger ceremony because of coronavirus. This starts at 9 a.m.

Rhode Island College is holding it’s first ever Veteran’s Day celebration on campus. It’s a small, socially-distanced event outside Roberts Hall at 1 p.m.

Veterans are invited to Iggy’s on Oakland Beach Avenue in Warwick for a FREE breakfast today.  It’s co-sponsored by Iggy’s and Bishop Hendricken High School.  It’s a special “thank you” to these brave men and women for the sacrifices made for all of us.  Mr. & Mrs. Richard August will serve as Honorary Chairpersons of the event.  They are the Gold Star Parents of Hendricken alum, Army Capt. Matthew J. August.  He was killed in action in 2004 while serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
