Providence College announces limited in-person attendance to outdoor sporting events

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- Providence College announced the return of in-person attendance to outdoor sporting events on Monday.
Starting on Wednesday, March 3, students will be allowed to attend games on campus.
The school worked with the Rhode Island Department of Health to put restrictions into place to keep students safe.
State guidelines limit the event’s attendance to one person per 125 square feet. The NCAA requires that there is a 20 foot barrier between fans and the area of play.
Additionally, the state’s guidelines only allow for members of the Providence College community to go to events. The school tests teachers and students twice per week.
No parents or non-community members will be allowed to attend.
The Providence College on-campus outdoor athletic facilities and their capacity requirements are as follows:
- Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium (Lacrosse, Men’s and Women’s Soccer) – 250 students max
- Glay Field (Softball) – 50 students max
- Hendricken Field (Men’s and Women’s Track & Field) – 175 students max
- Lennon Field (Field Hockey) – No students
- Tennis Courts (Women’s Tennis) – No students
Providence College Athletic Director, Bob Driscoll says that the school is excited that students will be able to attend games in the spring.
“Our student-athletes are looking forward to seeing their classmates in the stands supporting them as they compete. We hope that the athletic contests will provide our students with an opportunity to have fun in a safe environment while cheering for the Friars,” said Driscoll.
