Bishop Tobin pushes to reopen churches, local pastor weighs in

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – As Bishop Tobin pushes for the reopening of faith based services by the end of May, church leaders are weighing in.

Father Jordan Kelly is the Pastor at the Church of Saint Sebastian in Providence.

He stressed that the shutdown has been a challenge and his parishioners feel lost.

He says he feels it is critical that they resume services as soon as possible, but it needs to be done so in a safe manner.

“I think this is a real moment for faith and science to come together. Both the government and the diocesan officials to speak together to see how we can preserve our civil liberties, and at the same time, be wise and not put people at risk.” Said, Kelly.

Father Kelly says his church is considering adjusting their schedule, adding outdoor masses and will continue to live-stream their services.

This will all be done to limit the number of people inside of the church.
