CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WLNE)– Cambridge company Moderna announced promising results in the hunt for a COVID-19 vaccine today.

The company said eight participants in a study who had received medium and low-level doses of an experimental vaccine had produced antibodies similar to those who had recovered from the virus.

The findings suggest the vaccine could trigger some sort of immunity.

Erica Hardy, director of infectious diseases at Women and Infants hospital, said that even though the study was in its earliest stages, the news was encouraging.

“I think there’s a long way to go and we have to go through those steps safely,” Hardy, who was not involved in the study, said. “We’re all hoping for an end product of a vaccine that’s safe and can be able to be used and manufactured and ready for use in a lot of people to hopefully end this pandemic.”

Moderna’s vaccine is one of eight being developed by scientists across the globe.
