Cranston COVID-19 field hospital will open next week

PROVIDENCE, RI (WLNE) – The Cranston field hospital will open the week of Nov. 30, according to Dr. Mark Salmon at Kent Hospital.

There is no official opening day yet, but doctors were alerted and preparation to decide which patients will move is underway.

Health officials say hospitals in Rhode Island are nearly filled to the brink which is why they’re making the move to open the field hospital in Cranston.

Kent Hospital is currently at full capacity, according to Dr. Laura Foreman.

She added that the hospital is still able to care for the patients they do have, but she says that is a struggle on a daily basis.

On Monday, RIDOH reported over 2,000 new cases and 15 new deaths since the last report on Friday.

This is a breaking news story and this story will be updated as more information becomes available.
