Independent investigator to review May lockdown incident at Nathaniel Greene Middle School

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Education confirmed Thursday that a review is being conducted on the Nathaniel Greene Middle School in Providence following a May incident.
A spokesman said former U.S. Attorney for Rhode Island Robert Corrente will be conducting the review of the situation. The spokesman did not comment further.
The call comes after a controversial school lock down in late May that Providence Mayor Elorza called “unacceptable.”
Elorza would go on to call for the principal to be fired.
“It is unacceptable that it took so long to act and that the first call was not to the police department but to a school administrator,” Elorza wrote to the department.
ABC 6 News reached out to Elorza’s office for comment and are waiting to hear back.
