“It’s a nightmare”: RI woman says 3 family members in same hospital with COVID-19
SCITUATE, R.I. (WLNE)- “My uncle, my grammy and grampy are all in the hospital with COVID-19 right now,” Kelly Doran says she thought she understood just how devastating COVID could be- but she has a whole new understanding of it after the past few days.
Doran said she thought her family ‘was out of the woods’, until last week when COVID-19 spread rapidly through her family’s home in Scituate. She says despite all efforts… now the most vulnerable people in her family are sick; her uncle, and two grandparents.
All at Roger Williams Hospital now, Doran says it’s a nightmare that they all cannot be together.
Doran said her uncle has Lyme Disease and is now intubated in the ICU. Her grandparents, remain in separate rooms just down the hall from each others. Doran adds- this is the longest time her grandparents have spent apart in over 50 years.
Kelly Doran’s fear now remains that as restrictions begin to ease; other families will soon end up in a disastrous situation like her own.
“I just want people to understand that if this is our new normal, people have to be extra careful. Because it’s far from over.”
Doran hopes others can see from their family’s situation that the pandemic is still deeply impacting people all around us.
“I know it feels hopeless,” she adds. “but do what you need to do to follow guidelines, and know you’re not alone in this.”
