Johnson & Wales University plans to welcome students back to campus this fall

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Johnson and Wales University announced today that the school plans to welcome students back to campus for the fall semester.

A release said that there will be changes to how classes are delivered with the return of students to campus.

The school will implement and follow federal, state and local guidance in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are excited to be preparing for the first day of class, seeing students in classrooms, kitchens, and labs as we start another academic year at JWU,” said Chancellor Mim Runey, LP.D. “The academic year has two bookends – the first day of class and graduation. It is my hope that we will be able to celebrate both the 2020 fall start of school and the May 2021 commencement in person.”

In response to reducing classroom side, undergraduate students will have both in-person and remote learning options for lab and academic classes.

All academic classes will transition to fully remote learning after November 20 for the remainder of the fall semester.

Current plans say that students who will be living on campus will be allowed to move in earlier in the summer, but are advised to make arrangement to leave their dormitory buildings after November 20 for the remainder of the semester.

Graduate programs excluding, programs in Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Master of Science in Addiction Counseling, Master of Arts in Teaching, Master of Education, Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies, Occupational Therapy Doctorate, and Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership will be fully remote for the fall semester.

The University has installed disinfectant and sanitation wipe stations throughout campus buildings and the school says all high-touch and high-traffic areas will be cleaned frequently.

Johnson and Wales will inform the members of its community regarding the latest protocols for the COVID-19 pandemic.
