WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — A 63-year-old man is in critical condition after police say he was struck by a vehicle on Post Road in Warwick Friday night.

Police responded just after 7 p.m. to the area of 2406 Post Road and found the man unresponsive and lying in the southbound lanes.

The man entered the road in an unlit area according to police and was struck by a Dodge caravan while crossing from east to west.

The operator of the caravan and witnesses stopped and called 911.

The man was not in a crosswalk.

Police say speed, alcohol and distracted driving were not factors. The crash is still under investigation.

This is the third pedestrian accident on Post Road in under a year and a half.

One year ago, a 31-year-old man was seriously injured after he was struck crossing in a hit and run. A few months before that, a 48-year-old man was hit while using a crosswalk with his 11-year-old son.
