Naragansett Council to Close Yawgoog

ROCKVILLE, R.I (WLNE) – For the first time in its 100+ years of existence, Camp Yawgoog will not be open for the summer amid the coronavirus pandemic.
This information was sent to Scouting families by the Narragansett Council.
The decision was made after a careful and thorough evaluation, and after consulting with health, government, and other camp professionals.
The Narragansett Council said they have been carefully monitoring the situation and put everybody’s health and safety into consideration.
The Council also noted they will not be able to conduct on-site Cub Scout Day Camp or Family Camp at Camp Champlin, Camp Norse, or Camp Aquapaug.
Instead, The Narragansett Council said they will be launching plans for virtual camps in the near future.
These will also with a combination of program materials mailed to Scouts in advance, fun outdoor activities scouts can do at home, or with other scouts and supplemented by virtual programs.
The council said they are planning to offer a variety of Fall weekend programs at Camp Yawgoog and Adventure Base Camp if the situation at the time allows it.
They will continue to evaluate the options for small groups to come to camps later in the Summer if they can do so in a safe manner.
The Narragansett Council said they are looking forward to the day when everybody can “gather again around the Scouting campfire”, but reminds campers that the situation is evolving and is subject to change.
Scout BSA program options will be discussed at the council’s roundtable Wednesday night.
