New Shoreham Town Council to decide if Neronha should investigate Harborside Inn fire

NEW SHOREHAM, R.I. (WLNE) — The New Shoreham Town Council will decide Thursday if the Rhode Island General Attorney’s Office should investigate the fire that erupted in a historic hotel.
The Providence Journal reports that a possible cause of the Aug. 18 fire at Harborside Inn was the buildup of grease in the hood in the kitchen.
Town leaders will discuss if Attorney General Peter Neronha should look into the failure of fire inspections and prevention protocols.
The meeting is scheduled for noon and will be streamed on the New Shoreham Town Council’s YouTube page.
Video obtained by ABC 6 News shows flames shooting from one of the hotel’s walls before spreading. No injuries were reported.
About 60 guests had to evacuate the building, which was deemed a total loss. It’s currently being demolished.
