Providence city officials cancel 2021 PVDFest Celebration due to rising COVID-19 cases
PROVIDENCE, RI (WLNE) – PVDFest is canceled for the second year in a row due to the Coronavirus.
The city cited rising COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in Rhode Island as a reason for the cancelation.
The festival was set to make a comeback in 2021 on September 25-26 after being canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic.
“While we must cancel this year’s signature weekend, we remain more committed than ever to bringing joy to public spaces through the arts,” said Stephanie Fortunato, Providence Director of Art, Culture and Tourism. “Our vision is for all residents and visitors to feel a continuous relationship to arts practice, making, and culture year-round. The spirit of PVDFest can be found every day, in every neighborhood, and we look forward to bringing the full festival back next year.”
However, PVDfest organizers say smaller outdoor PVDFest happenings will continue as scheduled at this time, but masks will be strongly recommended.
